Hello folks,
Can somebody tell me what kind of socket is it? My DELL XPS15Z (L511Z) got oxidation on LCD socket, so two of forty pins gone (image 2 / right side).
I would replace this socket, unfortunately, I have no Idea what name / part number of this socket is. Also no idea where can I buy it. I already checked alibaba.com for LVDS sockets, but they are all different.
The mainboard manufacturer is Quanta.
I would very thankful, if somebody could give me information.
Thanks in advance,
Konstantin

Do you know model of the LCD? Looking that up may tell you what kind of connection it uses.
-
It won't work because of oxidation, rust, on the pins? Use a tiny bit of sandpaper to scrape that off to get to the virgin copper.
-
urgent question -- what happens when you google the cable's part number? another urgent question -- how many pins do you count in the socket?

Hello folks.
I got this Laptop already damaged.
My problem is not cable or cable connector. This item is listed on ebay for example.
My problem is the mainboard socket itself. Unfortunately pins 39 and 40 rusted through. So no contact to LCD cable pins 39 and 40.
This socket is ca. 24mm long and has 40 pins. -

A quick search tells me that you are out of luck. Most of the connectors are for the display side, and not for the MoBo. There is one for the MoBo, but it looks nothing like yours. Try to search harder - "dell 40 pin lvds connector" is what I used. Other option is to try to clean it with a Q-tip and Isopropyl Alcohol.
-
As I said. Pins 39 and 40 are gone (rusted away). So there is nothing to clean anymore.
Also my research about "dell 40 pin lvds" stood without any positive results. I hope HTWingNut would inform us about this socket.
Otherwise, the only way to fit socket is probably to rewire damaged pins from other LVDS sockets such as Galaxy S3. -
care to enlighten us, HT?
BTW OP, you'll probably want to specify socket in your search (i guess, lol). -
I think you're out of luck. If you're really handy with a soldering iron, then perhaps you could buy a used board or "laptop for parts" for cheap and swap the connector. Otherwise you'll have to swap the whole board. Maybe find a replacement cheap on eBay.

I would remove the end of the cable and attempt to solder the wires directly to the motherboard.
-
That would be tricky or next to impossible to assemble/dis-assemble.
I found your notebook's schematics. It's Sandy Bridge with nVIDIA 540m, right? If so, your LVDS connector is labeled as FOX_GS12407-11141-9H. Search in Google for GS12407-11141-9H it would give you more results. Good luck. -
Good find. But good luck finding some place that will sell you a single part. Those are OEM parts that are bought in mass quantity and doubt there's much demand for the sales of individual parts.
-
Well, it looks like the only way is to rewire damaged pins and replace them through galaxy s3 LCD connector pins. It's LVDS too. Hopefully the pins have the same form. The only problem is - micro work.
I already ordered magnifying glass, smd tweezer and 0,4 mm soldering tip for my weller. -
This is not hand soldered at the factory and I very much doubt if it can be hand soldered. Do you know anyone who can do reflow work? Also if the machine was in an environment that caused pins to rust away (and they would be gold plated BTW), I have to wonder what other problems this machine will have....
Urgent, What kind of LCD Socket is it?
