    Hey all!

    Weird problem just occurred on my old dv6000 HP Pavillion.

    For some reason, whenever I press the 'power up' button, the notebook's battery indicator light will turn on for a couple of seconds before shutting down totally... I tried the method of 'holding the power button for 45 sec' to no avail.

    Problem occurs when notebook is running on battery and/or ac power.

    Really not sure whats going on. Can anyone provide some suggestions?

    That machine probably has one of the defective NVIDIA GPUs in it. There was a class-action lawsuit and settlement. There are forms on that site you can fill out to get reimbursed for repair or even an entire replacement machine. Hopefully you have some kind of proof of purchase.

    When this happened to my wife's machine, we had parted out, recycled, and disposed of everything before this business was conducted. Would have been nice to get a new machine out of it. Live and learn, I guess.

    That could be... But I have had this notebook for close to 3 years and this problem has never occurred before... Could it possibly be an isolated problem?

    I would say no because my wife's old laptop was a dv6100, and it suffered from the exact same problem. Only it occurred on hers after 2 years of ownership.

    It's probably dead. The GPU is the most likely culprit, but if it actually shuts down rather than remaining on, but showing a black screen, it could also be something else. Three years is about as much as you're likely to get out of such a machine without repairs. If it's out of warranty, it's time for a new laptop.

    Defective GPUs don't cause your laptop not to power on.

    What I would do;

    Test AC adapter

    Use a known good AC adapter with battery removed and try to power on.

    Remove battery and AC adapter, hold down the power button for 30 seconds.

    ^ Yeah, remove the battery and try again?
