so i have a maxtor 500gb hardrive, i have slow transfer rates in xp as well in vista

but the problem is, everytime i plug in the device on any usb socket, a little message pops up saying "your device can transfer faster if you plug it into a highspeed usb input" but it says it on all the usb inputs i have, and i only have 4?
    i have a sager np9262

would it be cause the usb drivers arnt poperly installed?

would that message be the cause of the bottleneck?

All your USB's should be "faster" AKA USB 2.0. Drivers good guess. Which ones? your USB? Or the HDD? I would start with HDD but that is just me. The fact that it happens in both Vista and XP? Maybe get the most up to date from HDD MFG and install don't let OS pick drivers. What are your tranfer speeds in HDTach?

so i narrowed it down to the maxtor drive
its getting 1m/b sec max on hdtune and the other progam

but when i hook up my internal ide HD via Ide to usb cable, i get a steady 30.8/mb a sec

so i belive its eiather a bad drive or bad drivers?

hmm ill contact Maxtor about this
