    Hi,

So I use a Sager NP5793 (as in signature) that I built from that SVC barebone that came on clearance about two years ago after the piece xoticpc went bust. To be clear, I don't blame them, my laptop had a nasty fall off a bed and had a NZXT Cryo LX connected by USB topple onto it after. It still took the fall like a champ and continued playing the episode of Heroes I was watching, and continued to work for another three months before it stopped detecting the hard disk.

Upon receiving the new body, I conduct open heart surgery and transplanted all the vital organs into the new one, essentially recreating my old beast of a laptop.

    The old body currently contains:
    • Screen
    • Motherboard
    • Keyboard
    • Battery
    • (The above four essentially make up a barebone body)
    • Additionally: an 8700 M GT(S) or something graphic card
    • Additionally: A DVD Drive
    • Additionally: Some generic WiFi card
    • Additionally: Some generic Bluetooth module

I was wondering if there was any way to utilize the old laptop's screen as an extended screen for my laptop - essentially another 17" 16:10 1920 x 1200 screen (with a single dead pixel) rather than continue to collect dust while wrapped up in a pink plastic anti-dust cover.

My level of expertise with these things is low to medium, but I have friends with appropriate equipment and experience who can help.

    Thank you!

You can buy adapters for this sort of thing fairly cheaply on eBay. I'm not sure of the specifics concerning compatibility, but you should be able to (eventually) find something that works with your display.

I did actually do a little research on Google and on search in NBR (seems to be broken) but couldn't turn up with anything. Would you know a particular model I can look into?

Also, if I need to add a processor to it, it seems the lowest end socket P CPU I can buy is a ~20 USD Intel T2310, which isn't so bad. Could probably steal a pair of 1gb ram sticks from an old laptop.

Oh that's it right there. Thank you! I now have somewhere to start looking for the right thing. I would definitely want DVI or HDMI (even though my laptop doesn't have HDMI, I have a DVI - HDMI cable).

If using it primarily as a display, and for the extra money you'll invest, just sell it and buy a new 19" LCD monitor for $100
