This might be a mighty simple question, so feel free to beat me with sticks![]()
I live in Europe, and want to buy a Thinkpad T42. Since these are sold fairly cheap on Ebay and fairly expensice in the shops here, I'll want to buy one from Ebay. Unfortunately almost all the ones for sale on Ebay is made in America...
So my question is:
Will I be able to use an American notebook (Thinkpad T42) in Europe?
Or will the power adapter be fried the instant I put the plug in the wall?

You will have to get a transformer to change it from 220V to 110V since you are in the military you can pick these up on base at the BX.

I use my laptop in Europe but bought it from USA. Most (if not all) adapters have specifications from 100 to 240 volts so you don't need to worry about this. You only need to get a plug-in adapter.

As you can tell from the prior two answers, it depends on what the power adapter is that comes with the T42, if it's a US only (110v or so) adapter, then you either need a new power adapter (not too expensive) or an inverter. If it's a 110-240v adapter (like most adapters are) then you are good to go, just need a plug adapter.

Most power adapters support voltages from 110 -240 V. I had a T42 for work a while back and its adapter went from 100-240V.
The ebay seller should list these details. -
Allmost all notebook adapters are 100-240V auto. If not it is some special exception. I have not seen a notebook sofar that only works at 110v.( That is the point of Notebook in the first place, to able take with you).
But, remember if there is a DVD drive in that, it is possible it is locked to region 1.( But typically you can change 5 times total, before it gets locked to last change). -
Thanks a lot.
Now I'm off to spend all my money on Ebay
