I use a laptop connected to an external monitor. I had an asus 24' monitor that has 1920 x 1200 resolution. This monitor broke and could not be fixed. I had to buy a new monitor but with this resolution. Where im located, its hard to find this resolution. There is 24' 1920 x 1080 resolution though.

I found a place where they used a 1920x1200 monitor and was able to sell. It looked like a tv as well and i found out its an HDTV Monitor. So basically its a tv and a monitor. The guy who uses it there uses it primary as a monitor.

I bought it used off of him because i needed 1920 x 1200 monitor.

This monitor is called Samsung Syncmaster t240hd. Its an hdtv monitor with 1920 x1200 resolution for monitor. I believe if used as a TV, its 1920 x 1080 though but i wont use it for tv. Anyways, the first thing i noticed was the monitor isn't straight. If you look at it from the side, it looks like its slouching. Is there a way to fix this? Thus adjust it a bit higher?

The other thing is when i look at numbers/words, its a lot harder to read than my old monitor? Thus you see its much easier to read the same thing on my laptop screen compared to this monitor. My laptop is dell xps 15 9550 and very nice. But its just harder to read on this hdtv. I tried making brightness higher than 45 and this makes it much worst. The lower it is, a bit better but its just harder to read on it.

Can someone tell me how i can fix this issue? Also i wasn't aware of this but this hdtv monitor has glass over the monitor. Is this how all hdtv monitors are? Is that the reason why its harder to read on this as oppose to a regular monitor?

Are there settings i can change that i can make reading words and letters much easier?

    There is

    Mode: Standard
    Backlight: 8
    Contrast: 95
    Brightness: 45
    Sharpess: 50 (can't change)
    Color : 60 (can't change)
    tint: 50 (can't change)

    Picture options

    Color tone: normal
    size: width

    sound

    Mode: music
    auto volume: on
    tv speaker: on

    setup:

    melody: medium
    light effect: when watching tv
    light level: 5

The Asus-VS24AH-P is my original monitor that worked very good. Display looked great. I did not make any changes to brightness or contrast etc.

    https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-VS24AH-...1-1&keywords=asus+24+inch+1920+x+1200+monitor

So basically the settings of the monitor now, thats how the person who used it set it as. So im wondering what are the default settings for this. I mean, its fine but for me... its a lot harder to read the letters and numbers.

I'm guessing... you are using HDMI to connect laptop to monitor?

Probably monitor thinks that it is receiving TV broadcast and downscales it to 1080p.
I would either try hdmi to dvi adapter (monitor would assume dvi signal comes from a computer) or find suitable setting in the monitor itself. Some newer TV's have separate settings for each individual input.

Yes im using hdmi to connect laptop to monitor

My external monitor which is my primary monitor is 1920 x 1200 resolution. My laptop is 1920 x 1080 resolution. I went to advanced display settings and the resolution is correct.

Are you sure about that? That wouldn't make any sense here. Because there is hdmi in this monitor... so hdmi to hdmi should be fine right?

@Drew01 try changing refresh rate in Windows settings, it's probably running at 60Hz instead of 75Hz. If it doesn't help, connecting it by DVI as @KLF suggested is worth a try.

I cannot do this. When to advanced display settings and i dont see this option. Im using windows 10....

I dont have a dvi cable. However i dont believe this is the issue.

I read online this might have something to do with the menu settings... thus the input section where source list shows as hdmi1. In the edit name, it has TV... i read you change it to PC and that would work. That made no difference.

I mean the color of this monitor is really bad when viewing a chrome page.

Basically if i show a picture of this site with it on my laptop and the one on my monitor, you will notice a huge color difference.

Here are some pictures of how it looks.

1st picture is google.com on my laptop screen which looks white and fine.

2nd picture is google.com on the samsung syncmaster t240hd screen. You see how its very yellow? Is that yellow tint? It sort of looks like yellow lines int he picture but you dont see that really when looking at this monitor. It just looks like yellow tint.

Most importantly, when reading any website with words, its very hard on the eyes to look at this monitor because of the color. Is this monitor defected? Is there a way to fix the coloring where it looks like my laptop screen? I mean, LCD does not look like this right? I had LCD monitor before and im pretty certain the white isn't suppose to look like this yellow...

I brought the monitor to the computer place. The guy looked it over and didn't notice the color at all. He had connected the monitor to his computer. I noticed that it looked okay. I then connected the monitor to my laptop. It looked okay but when i showed a chrome page on the laptop and one the monitor, there was a difference you notice but i didn't notice it as much at my place. I then showed pictures of how it looked if i take a picture of the google page on chrome with my iphone. I showed how its clear white on my iphone but on the monitor, you see that yellow thing. He noticed it as well. Then i went to take picture of the monitor and he noticed that there is the yellow. He then tells me he knows why and the reason is because this monitor is an old LCD monitor and LED. He said if you take a picture of it with your phone on any crt or lcd or plasma monitor of a webpage, it will display the yellow. I did not know this. Is anyone of you familiar with this? I had used crt , lcd monitors before but this was a while back. I never noticed this though... then again technology was slower back then.

But the yellow is something i noticed. He said yes everything with the monitor is fine. So does that mean i can just do the brightness/calibrate to try to get the best settings possible? Thus this monitor is like this because its LCD? Also this light isn't that bright compared to my laptop monitor. He said its because my laptop is LED screen and thats why its very bright.

I like to know is there a setting configuration out there for this samsung or any samsung lcd hdtv monitor where it can make the picture and display look the best? Such that what number to put for contrast, brightness and anything else etc.

@Drew1 it's clearly uncomfortable for you to work with this monitor. Get rid of it!

I agree. Get rid of the HDTV.

A lot of people are attracted to using HDTV's as their primary display because it is big; and cheaper than getting a monitor of the equivalent size and resolution. But there's a reason why they are cheaper. Most of the less-expensive HDTVs use inferior LCD panels, inferior lighting, and have much lower pixel density. Additionally, most HDTVs add quite a bit of input lag, because of the additional processing time of the image scaler built into HDTVs.

An HDTV is fine as a secondary monitor for watching movies or playing games. But as a primary display, I'd say get rid of it and stick with a "real" computer monitor.
