    Folks,

I know the RAM issue has been discussed over and over in here.

But my question is slightly odd and unusual. I have a DV4000 and i had a few problems with a recently installed 333Mhz 1Gb (computer wouldn't boot). I have been running with a borrowed 333Mhz 1Gb, but I will have to return that to the owner pretty shortly.

I do have access to a 1Gb 266 PC2100 Kingston RAM, and my question is, can I use this PC2100 266 RAM on a DV4000 (that uses 333Mhz RAM) temporarely for two or three days, until the new 333 memory that i ordered arrives?

My question is whether the computer will work or not, and if there's any risk of frying the RAM or some damage happening to my computer.

I would appreciate greatly if someone could help me.

    Regards from Brazil.

There should be no risk of anything getting damaged.

And it should work as well, although some motherboards don't support all speeds. So look up the manual and see what it says.
Generally speaking, the ram will just use the speed of the slowest stick, and the motherboard *usually* doesn't have a problem with lower speeds.

It could quite possibly just not boot up. If the motherboard only supports 333MHz RAM at it's slowest, then it won't work. I'd advise against it... you could go the other way, running 333MHz RAM in a 266MHz system, but you typically run into problems going the other way. Either the RAM will fail, or the computer, neither of which you want to happen.

Do some research on your model, but I don't think the DV4000 supports a slower bus speed than 333MHz, so it's very risky putting something out of spec in it.
