I didn't know which forum to put this in cuz it seems to fit into a couple.
Anyway, I wanted to build my own adapter to convert the 44 pin laptop HDD to be able to use as either a USB drive or as an internal HDD in a pc. Instead of buying one I want to make my own. Does anyone have any suggestions.
I know the adapters are cheap, I just want to make my own. :D

couple headers ( 44 pin yanked from an old laptop or adaptor, a 40 pin Male from an old 3.5" hard drive) and some proto board works good. not sure WHY you want to build it though. the pinouts can be found easily online and if your careful its an easy project. going to USB is alot more work.

I'll have to look into this thanx. I've been searching online but you know when you do a search all you get are a hundred ads before you get real help.

Okay so I researched how those adapters work exactly, as if it isn't obvious but I wanted to make sure. It pays to know all the details. And basically what the adapter does is take the 44pins and separates the power supply and runs the power separate to be connected straight to the PSU. and then you got 40 pins left for a normal IDE. So now all I need is the wiring specs for the 44 pins so I know what is what. I assume that pin 1 will be a ground and 2 will be a hot pin and then a reset or ground but I need a diagram.
