I did a couple google searches and didn't come up with much, so im wondering if it's even possible now... Is there anyway to have the speakers on my laptop act as 2 additional speakers to a plugged in 2.1 system?

Dont think so. The past laptops ive owned switches to the external speakers as soon as you plug it in the jack

You could kind of get it. You will lose quality though. First have tape ready. turn sound up and slowly plug speakers in while running music and at one point both the speakers and laptop speakers will send noise out and at that point tap it in place and bazang you got it.

hmm, i guess it is possible. however my laptop is very reliable since the first day, but once i had a really strange experience.
    :p

After resuming from hibernation there was some bug in sound drivers / software. i was listening music with the headphones, and i was wondering why all the people around me were looking at me when i raised the volume.
after a while i figured something must be wrong, so i put off the headphones, and then i knew why the people were looking at me. the laptop speakers and the headphones were both live and giving sound output. so i guess the people probably did not like hearing my music this loud.... :p

since this seemed to be a software hickup, i guess it should be possible to mod the drivers or software to have this effect.
