Really hope someone here can help me. I have an old dell inspiron 15.4" laptop I no longer use after upgrading my laptop. I was wondering if there is a way to connect the monitor from the old laptop to my new laptop as an external monitor to have 2 monitors (new laptop and old laptop monitors) at once for my laptop. Haven't had much luck figuring this out. Anyway to use my old laptop as an external monitor for my laptop? Thank you.

The Inspiron 15's LCD has no HDMI or VGA input port to allow you to drive it. Converter boxes are available so you could use the LVDS connector but it's cheaper to just buy a s/h 15" LCD with VGA/HDMI input.

Cheapest solution if they are connected on a network is to use remote console software. UltraVNC, igremote, or Window's Remote Desktop.

Remote console software would mean having to actually boot up the old laptop as well though doesn't it? Was hoping to put some use into that old laptop. Thanks for reply.

uh..i used a LAN cable to play CNC Generals on an old IBM Thinkpad T40. Not too sure how i fixed it up, I did it when i was Year 6 and using XP. You could try fiddling with the Network Connections. And enable exceptions for in the firewall on both computers.
