    Hi, i have a Battalion 101-S AMD with AMD643200+ processor @ 2ghz 1mb cache. I want to improve battery life by switching it for a low wattage AMD2800+ 1.8ghz 512kb cache 35W. Is the SiS755 American Megatrends mobo able to support this?

    First you want to make sure that the AMD you have right now is not the mobile version. If it is the desktop version, you might be able to switch it for another desktop AMD chip. Many companies save money by soldering the chip into the motherboard, so make sure you have a socket before you order.

    Go get ClockGen and undervolt instead. Most DTR Athlon 64 CPUs will undervolt to 1.8GHz @ 1.2V, same as the Low-Voltage A64's. I generally run 1GHz @ 0.85V and switch to full speed as needed. You'll get amazing battery life at 0.85V. 1.3V will usually handle 2GHz and up. Verify the new configuration with Hot CPU Tester.

    A 2800+ CPU will probably swap in without incident, though you'll want to make sure you have the latest BIOS for your notebook flashed in first just to be safe. Good luck finding the CPUs though, LV and Mobile class A64's have largely disappered from Newegg recently. I advise waiting for the 90nm A64's to become available later this year, OEMs have been receiving them for a few weeks now.

    The mobo is a Foxconn. It's removable from socket... it's a 62W DTR.

    There is no clockgen program for SiS chipset...
