Hey, I currently have a Sony VGN-FJ170/B laptop and have reading up on upgrading the processor and have seen the Intel Mobile Processor Compatibility Guide. According to CPU-Z, here's the Chipset version:

    Northbridge: Intel i915GMS/i910GML rev. 03
    Southbridge: Intel 82801FBM (ICH6-M) rev. 03

I currently have a Pentium M 780 processor from an old Dell computer, and according to the guide, it has the same chipset as my Sony. Can I replace the current processor (Pentium M 740) with this one?

Also, which is the best/recommended one which I may be able to buy & install? I have already upgraded the RAM & HD, and would like to take try with the processor now. I already have an OEM install of winXP.

I think the pentium 780 or whatever is the best upgrade... it should work...
