Will a Quadcore work in the Vaio SR Series?
-
I would say depending on the model of SR, you might know also that they don't have the same chipset and motherboard but there is a good chance looking at some of the SR models are there with amazing spec
But I haven't actually see what socket the Quad uses and motherboard could really be the bottleneck here if you are able to -
Socket and Chipset are the same. >> Socket-P, Intel PM45.
The problem is the internal power supply... are the voltage transformer powerfull enough?! Has anybody tested this? -
Depends on the BIOS.
Some managed to make a Quadcore work in an SZ... -
very risky... BIOS might not support it... although u have the right chipset and socket... also u might overheat ur notebook.. quads run hotter...
-
How does that tiny thing not melt down? -
And the CPU's cooling is pretty good on the SZ - its very cool in normal use.
It might have the fan on constantly though... and I believe battery life suffered a bit...
Edit, found it:

Yea, I know the SZ runs relatively cool, but the X9000 is a pretty hungry CPU. -
Well, anything more powerful tends to be more "hungry". -
That's true. I'm impressed his SZ didn't melt. Some substantially larger machines have issues with the X series processors. -
Thanks
But if it managed an extreme processor - assuming the SR's cooling is as good as the SZ's shouldn't that just leave the BIOS a a potential problem? -
X9000 = 44W TDP
Q9000 = 45W TDP -
or find details on the motherboard.
