    Hi,

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-BX195EP which (according to the Sony Tech Specs) has a Intel Celeron M 380 (1.6GHz it appears to be). I have upgraded the memory to the max of 2GB, but I would like to speed-up the laptop even more.

Is it possible to replace the processor with a faster/better processor and which ones are recommended ?

I see from the compatibility guide on here that the M 380 sits on a Socket 479, but I'm not sure about whether a bigger heatsink or different motherboard would be required and how this fits with the case for this specific Vaio model.

All help and suggestions much appreciated.

    Thanks

Your cpu is based on the Dothan Pentium-M (model number starts with 7**) so you could replace your Celeron-M with any of those (choose a 400MHz FSB version if you want to be safe, the model number for those ends with a 5). You can get up to 2.266Ghz Pentium-Ms but the higher end ones can be very expensive. You should notice a good performance increase due to the extra level 2 cache and a battery life extension due to the speedstepping feature.
