Hi, my HP Pavilion is a bit more than 2 years old and I suddenly noticed a vertical yellow line in my screen. Three weeks later a second vertical line appeared (this one's blue).
Does this mean that my notebook will slowly die on me? Will there be more lines in the near future? Is there anything I can do?
I read somewhere that repairing the screen costs more than buying a new one.

    Cheers

I think I've had a similar problem. Does the colors change a bit when you move the screen on the hinges? Mine did, and they've changed the screen on mine (under warranty). I only had one, but it lasted like 4 or 5 months before I could send it in.

This could be a connection problem and it is worthwhile trying to reseat the cable connecting the display to the motherboard (may e accessible if you remove the keyboard).

Thanks for the replies. Colour doesn't change when I touch the
edges or when I move the mouse.

I will try to open the NB and check the connection this weekend.
Will drop a line if it's fixed (or not)

    Cheers

I had this happen to my laptop just a month and a half ago, but my line was vertical pink. Im sure the color doesnt matter. If these lines stay on the screen in the same place every time your computer boots and your monitor switches on, theres a 99.9% chance your monitor is faulty and needs to be replaced.

I got extremely lucky. My Laptop is still under Phillip's extended 2 year warranty. They sent me a box, I shipped it out, I got it back with a new monitor and lid a month later. When an extended warranty is offered for a laptop, TAKE IT FOR THIS REASON ALONE!

It is very true that these monitors are expensive. The amount i spent on the extended warranty on my laptop wouldnt have even covered my monitor repair if i had to dish out the cash to repair it out of warranty. ($350 for the additional 2yrs)

If your laptop is a performance laptop, it may be worth the repair, otherwise I would just look at purchasing a new one and eliminating the headache of paying for a new laptop LCD.

Wow... My 5760 started showing this cyan vertical line just off center to the right of the webcam.. I thought it was a vga driver issue so just installed the new ones. But the line is still there. On white bg it doesn't show, but on dark UI it shows alot.
So the only way to get rid of it is to send it to Philips and have the screen replaced?

If you use an external monitor, does the lines also appear on it?

If the lines also appear on the external monitor, its a video card issue. If not, the screen has gone bad. :(

Its a screen issue unfortunately.. A few days ago this line would go on and off, and now it is permanetely on, from booting..
In a light Ui one does not notice, but in a dark ui or dark image...
Not to mention watching movies on the laptop..
I contacted philips and they need the part number. I'm looking for it. :-(
