How sensitive are notebooks to vibration? For instance, can I use one while traveling by car on a bumpy road? Toshiba L30 says it has shock absorber with its HDD. My new ASUS A6Rp doesnt say anything about shock resistance. Well?

From what I know, only IBM and a few selected business notebooks(HP ncxxxx and Latitude) provide true HD shock absorption protection. The 'shock absorber' may be just a gimmick provided by the HD itself(All notebook HD's have this technology) which is then marketed by Toshiba.
However, I'm not too familiar with the L30, so I'm not entirely sure. -

I have used both an old IBM and Toshiba as a DVD player for the kids when we went on long road trips years ago. Never seem to have any problems with either of them. It should be OK as long as your not 4-wheeling in the back country.
