I have a HP pavillion DV 6500, that currently has a 8400m GS in it. I was wondering if it would be possible to replace the 8400m GS with an 8600 GT. I have found a 8600M GT chip available for sale on ebay. But I don't know if it even possible or what compatibility issues I would run into if this were attempted.
Here is the link to the 8600 on ebay

sorry not possible -
I have read that post before. However I was looking for more of a conclusive answer to what is making it not possible? if it were disassembled what would keep me from switching it out. HP's of similar lines come equipped with the 8600m GT and GS, so I was wondering just what would keep it from being possible to interchange the cards.

If you open the notebook and find a MXM-II slot, you can upgrade it to a 8600M GT or the new 9600M GT.
However, it may require a BIOS or VBIOS modification if there is a proprietary config for that particular system. -
The only discrete gpu available on your model was the 8400M GS. The 8600M GS was only offered on the dv9 xxx series and is directly soldered to the board (and I find it highly unlikely that you could shoehorn a 17" model system board into a 15.4" unit). Unfortunately, the consumer Pavilions do not utilize any MXM protocols (aside from the HDX). Everything is permanently soldered..........
