What are my best options for upgrading my video card in a Latitude D810?

I'm interested in using it for some gaming, particularly MVP 2005.

Its not possible to upgrade graphics in a notebook, at least for 99% of models. However, if you don't have integrated graphics, and there were a few dedicated solutions offered with your notebook, then you may be able to upgrade to one of those. For example, if you currently have the Mobility X300 installed, then you may be able to upgrade to the Mobility X600.

It would be a difficult upgrade, as you would have to find the new graphics card, and then install it yourself. Not to mention, the cooling systems may be different.

If you have the radeon x600 in your system right now then you could upgrade it to a quadro 1400go, 6800go, 6800go ultra, or 7800go gtx, which are cards out of the i9300 and xps m170. You would have to aquire a quadro 1400go heatsink from a precision m70 as the x600 card's heatsink isn't made to fit nvidia cards, and all of the nvidia cards besides the quadro use a much bigger heatsink meant to be in the i9300/m170. This also means that temperatures will increase by a certain amount.

laptoplogic.com did an article about changing gpu's in the precision m70, which is the same motherboard as what the latitude d810 w/x600 uses. It's definitely not an easy procedure but it is possible. I followed the guide with the 7800go gtx that dell was selling for $250 back in late 2005, and ended up with a pretty good performing 15" laptop. Good luck!
