Hey guys.. I have no idea how this hapapned, turned on my laptop and saw this.. really dissapointing. When I put my finger on it or behind on the back of the screen it looks like I can move it around. I'm assuming there is no software fix for this. Does anybody know how much it would cost to get this fixed, or would the whole screen have to be replaced? Who would I go to HP? Wondering it's going to be worth it. I haven't even had this computer for a year.

You will need a display replacement, contact HP and see if you can get it repaired under warranty. Looks like you panel cracked under pressure.

The screen is cracked, unless you have an accidental damage warranty through HP, you will need to pay for the repair out of pocket.

My laptop is still under warranty apparently. How much do you think I would have to pay to get this done, I'm having some troubles finding a away to contact and go about this.

Unless you purchased additional accidental damage coverage, you're looking at paying for shipping, parts, and labor. Normal warranty does not cover any physical/accidental damage.

That or use HWinfo, navigate to Motherboard -> SMBIOS DMI -> System. Booting into your BIOS should be the first place to look if you don't see the sticker with the serial printed on the belly of the laptop. If not in BIOS either, try HWinfo.

Usually HP won't charge you for shipping, but they'll give you a ridiculous repair quote. Most HP serial numbers and model part numbers are under the battery.

use HWiNFO (or similar utility) as prostar suggests to get the panel's part/model number. there's a separate "monitor" section/tree where it'll be listed. it may or may not be listed in your BIOS as well, or just tell us what model you have and we can google it for you.

it's obviously more worth it to replace a $100-$200 lcd panel as opposed to replacing a <1 year old laptop. unless you're planning to do the job yourself, you can purchase the panel for as cheap as you can find it online but you'll still need to take it to a shop to have them install it (and therefore pay labor). your easiest fix is to send it in to HP and let them gouge you for some exorbitant amount--it might even end up being pretty close to what you'll pay if you don't do the job by yourself anyway.

and just to be clear here: you cracked the screen. you'll want to be a little more careful handling your laptop going forward.
