I have heard that Vista 32-bit doesn't work with 4GB of RAM. Is this true? I'm buying an HP and im getting Vista 32 with 4GB, and its letting me, will it work propely, with the proformance of 4GB or only the "Vista Maximum"? Why would HP allow that config is it wouldnt work? Thanks for all help in advance
    :)

32-bit Vista can currently support 3GB's of memory, if you're going to want to utilize all 4GB you need to go 64-bit. There should be an option for you to order 64-bit Vista on their website, if not, call HP and ask.

And are you ordering 4GBs of memory off of them or purchasing it aftermarket?

As said above not with Vista 32 the most it will see is 3.12GB's and maybe less depending on hardware. The only advantage of buying 4GB vs 3GB of RAM is the matching sticks are slightly faster. It is almost always cheaper to buy the minimum amount of RAM from the OEM then purchase on your own.

nO, it is not after-market, when i customize the PC it allows me to choose both. If i do this, will I only have the proformance of 3GB or only one stick? the 64-bit is more $$, should I get 2GB and upgrade to 3GB? If I get a 2GB stick and a 1GB stick, i thought with DDR-2 you couldnt do that? Thanx again.

Check those threads on the deal with 64-bit.

And you'll save money if you buy RAM aftermarket.

Customizing with a lot of RAM costs more than buying it and installing it yourself.

If you're truly set on 32-bit, get 1GB in the customization process and buy a 2GB stick from NewEgg or somewhere else.

If you wanna go 64-bit, order 2GB in the customization process (make sure it's one stick!) and get another 2GB afterwards.

Not possible from consumer lines. It's always going to be 2 dimm.
