i'm getting the HP DV6000 which comes Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit) and has C2D T5600. the C2D T5600 is a 64-bit processor, so i will not be getting the features of a 64-bit OS, if i get the Vista Home Premium (32-bit) edition rite? will i be able to fix this by upgrading in the future? please advise. or else i would just get a Core Duo given that they are cheaper and are not that bad consideing overall performance and battery life.
thanks

The 32 bit version will run 100% fine on your Core 2 Duo, trust me, there will be no problems whatsoever.

For software compatibility, 32-bit vista is better than 64-bit. If you have some old software, it will probably run in 32-vista, but probably not in 64-vista. Plus, no one really confirm 64 Vista really perform faster than 32 Vista.

thanks for the replies. i was asking if it then makes sense to buy a C2D processor? i reckon the CD will be good enuf to handle 32 bit operarions? or shud i get the C2D for future proofing?
-
I would say to go with the C2D, its not only the fact that it can do 64-bit, most models will also give you twice the L2 cache, 4 mb to be exact over the CD and are also a bit faster under the same clock speed, I do hear they have slightly worse battery life though?

I installed the ultimate 32bit version on an AMD Athlon 64 and it worked as a Charm.

Go for Core 2 Duo. And don't worry, 32bit Vista can work on it as Core 2 Duo supports both x86 (32bit) and x64 (64bit) OSes
-
At the moment i think 32 bit can do everything that a 64 bit can + supports older programs like rockharder said. You should be more worried about whether you want to install xp instead or vista. I went back to xp today and you really notice the speed difference.

I felt this "Yahoo Answer" was relevant to this question.

thanks for the replies everybody. now one last question. is the 'virtualization technology' in T5600 very important? or else i would be able to get a 2GB RAM with the T5300. so the question is:
T5300 with 2GB RAM (533MHz) or T5600 with 1GB(667MHZ)? -
one more thing, in the Yahoo Answers page, it says if i ever want to upgrade to a 64 bit Vista. is this possible? will i be able to upgrade to a 64-bit Vista Home Premium in the future?
thanks in advance -
When it comes to 32bit vista vs. 64bit vista which is better? When you say that 32bit will run older programs does that mean that the programs i am running on xp wont run on 64 bit vista? And will the 32 bit vista soon be outdated? And if the 32bit wont be outdated is there a need for a 64 bit vista?

Personally, I would get the best processor you can afford. Ram can be upgraded later, but the CPU cannot (at least not easily!). And you never know, you might want a little extra power or another OS running sometime in the future. -
i would pick the second one then just upgrade it

oh well i have to save up even more! T5600 it is! it better be really good! i hate future proofing!!!
Vista Home Premium (32-bit) on a 64-bit CPU?
