Will you upgrade to vista when it comes out?
-
-
I voted definitely but unsure if it will be right away. I would rather wait at least a month for M$ to iron out some major bugs that may appear when tested by users in the masses.
I would like a new lappy by then with santa rosa core2duo and the 64bit version of Vista. -
Does anybody know when it is actually coming out?
-
around december/january
-
I will be. Maybe not right away, but eventually... just like the rest of the world. XP is a great OS. Vista will be amazing.
-
Absolutely, but not right away. No real rush to be an early adaptor
-
I am already running Vista - but I totally can see how there is not any rush to upgrade. If you are content with XP, then I doubt that Vista has anything that will totally blow you away in advancement.
-
I will once my college has the upgrade for a reasonable price.

usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
After a year or so after release then maybe.

I'll upgrade, but I like to wait like 4 months until they have all the big bugs worked out and patched (like with any new OS, the users will find ways to break it). There is a possibility I will not upgrade until even later than that if the prices are nuts (which is very possible).

If you're weary, then read this:

It's a great article that details the true advantages of Vista. It's been around for a while, but i hope the people that voted "definately not" will look into this. -
I own msft shares so I chose A. -

A podcast definitely worth listening to if you are interested in Vista. -
I will wait until they have bugs worked out a bit better. Even though they have obviously taken their time, I think in the end it will be a little rushed due to pressure. Also, I am very interested to hear about the security performance in the real world and if you really can run as limited user. In fact, I may skip Vista all together since Vienna is due as early as 2009 (only 2 years after Vista). Plus Fiji is planeed fo in between, sounds like Vista Second Edition or SP1. That may be worth the upgrade. In the end, it is very possible that XP may be my last version of Windows. I hope not, but if Vista does not improve on the major problems with XP, I will migrate everything to OS X.

Waste of time? Howbout waste of money.
I see no reason to upgrade as most (if not all) the 'improvements' in vista wouldn't be usefull to me at all. Not to mention There's gonna be more annoying **** like copy protection built-in.
I suppose I'll get vista eventually when I buy a new comp with vista preloaded. -
thanks -
-
I'll wait some months to see if it works. After that I'll think if it is worth upgrade or not
-
No way I'm going anywhere near it until the first service pack is released and I can get a cheap OEM or Student version. XP works just fine and will continue to be much more stable and secure for the forseeable future.
-
I am happy with XP now and sont think the demands of the new OS slowing my system will justify any productivty boost.
Im sure i will get it, but just as I slowly moved from win98, i see this a slow upgrade as well. -
I think eventually you will be pretty much forced to upgrade as with previous OS's. So the answer should be "definitely yes" for everyone.
The question should be, not if, but when.
-
After it's out for awhile,to give them a chance to get out all the kinks.
-
I cant wait to start using it in my college courses. My college has an agreement with microsoft that we get thier OS free, as long as where programming with them.
So im definetly updating right away since it wont cost me a thing.
-
How many can go back to Windows ME(BSOD leader), 2000, or 98 after being on XP?
By reading the links you guys posted, it seems that when vista comes out there won't be any turning back. -
^ I still use 98se on my older comp and I don't mind it one bit actually.
-
-
definitely I will once its out. I am using beta since december 2005 ctp and have tested all ctps till now. Just love this new os.
-
I'm definitely undecided. XP seems fine. I don't care about the bells & whistles (Aero). The increased security, if it is more secure, would be the main factor in deciding.
I'd prefer to wait until they come out with their new file system. But I may be on Macs by then. Seriously. -
I still regularly use Windows 98SE on my laptop. As far as I can tell, Vista can't really offer a whole lot which would be useful for me (because XP does everything I want).
New driver models and better security are great - but they may also have a lot of problems when first released (as most new things do). While Vista has a lot of 'performance enhancements', I suspect that XP will still be quicker just because it's so much smaller (less RAM needed, less CPU time needed).
Speech recognition sounds nice too - but even when MS demonstrated it, it didn't work.
The scaling feature would be good, but does it also scale images? If it doesn't, they're going to look out-of-place (because the text around them will be scaled, but the pictures won't). If it does, Windows must be interpolating them (which loses quality).
I'll definitely avoid upgrading at first - there won't be enough drivers, and it'll probably be full of bugs. After six months or a year, I'll consider it. -
I'll wait until the first service pack arrives for it.

Now I've never trusted Microsoft with my security. Of course, from the link one has to expect their tone since they're now pushing their own paid-for security solutionFollowing Microsoft's logic you'd only use Microsoft on XP...and their firewall doesn't even control outbound, a feature that will not be turned on for Vista due to their lack of experience if what is reported is correct
If you believe the person from ZL we're all gonna be paranoid security freaks (speaking for myself) for years to come -
How often have your PCs been compromised because of XP's security flaws? Everyone is saying security this and security that, but I'm willing to bet the majority of these people have had no security-related issues.
-
Yay, another way to blow money: on an OS that supports new hardware that I'm probably not going to use.
Why not let everyone upgrade to Vista and stay with XP, so that malware won't touch you. Now that's cheap security.
With regards to the poll, I'm not buying straightaway. I'm going to skip Vista altogether and purchase a new computer w/ Vienna on it.
