I bought a Gateway P-6860 FX from Best Buy a few weeks ago, got the 3 year accidental coverage to go with it. I would really like to upgrade my cpu but really do not want to void my warranty. Has anyone ever upgraded their cpu and had to got best buy to get part of your laptop fixed? Has Best Buy ever caught you replacing a part while under warranty, and did it void the warranty? Thanks for any info you can give me.

Step 1. upgrade CPU
Step 2. Keep old CPU and put it back in the system if something ever breaks
Step 3-6. -----

Basically just keep everything you upgrade, so if you ever drop your machine or what ever then you put your old hard ware back in the rig and then take it up for the warrenty repairs -
Or you could check with them to see if it would void the warranty. That's what I did with my laptop, I checked with Staples and they said the rest of the laptop would still be covered, just not the CPU.

but what about the warrenty stickers?
-
I didnt even know there was warranty stickers
Some explain this?

There aren't any CPU stickers on the P6860FX.

I believe you can replace the CPU, but the CPU will NOT be covered under the PSP - everything else will. -
Yeah I don't think there are stickers on the CPU.

Alright thanks guys.
I think ill be buying a new CPU within this year sometime. Hopefully the old intel CPU's will go down in price since the new ones just came out.
And about the Hard Drive sticker. I want to buy a 2nd hard drive, but will that void the warranty? -
There's a sticker on the HDD that says the warranty on the HDD will be void if removed, but you never need to remove the sticker so don't worry about it.
Secondly, CPU's don't have warranty voiding stickers on them.
Thirdly, changing hard drives won't void your warranty. Basically, anything that has an easy access vent from the bottom of the laptop (usually RAM + HDD) you can access and replace without voiding warranty. -
It will not void. I was talking about a sticker that if you opened the enclosed part (bad idea) would be damaged. Not pulling the unit out whole.
Voiding BB Warranty?
