    Greetings all...
    This is my first post.

I have had my Voodoo ENVY U709 for like three months.
I love it, but my recent upgrades have caused some problems

My U709 has an Opteron 185 under the hood, where the stock 3800+ was.
Every since I installed my Opteron, my laptop does not come out of standby.

Does anyone know why this happens?
    Are Opterons not fully supported?
Is there a way to fix this?

When it rarely comes out of standby, I loose control of either my keyboard, touchpad, and or hotkeys.
This is getting really annoying, is there a way to fix or configure this?

You can check out my U709 review on iboughtavoodoolaptop.com

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You have time to answer, as i had to send my U709 back to Voodoo last weekend due to a defective graphics card.

Hey K-TRON from 9 months ago.
Actually I found the answer to the problem you had with standby. If you download and install CPU RIGHTMARK RMCLOCK.
Then when installed, go into the "advanced CPU settings" tab, and go to the Opteron family power management settings. From the pull down menu, select C3 stop grant, and then hit apply okay. The opteron series family does not support the C3 stop grant, so it is forced to run on C2, which is the standard CPU standy state.
I hope this helps my friend :D

You nbr members suck, nobody answered my first post :(

Suckers, I am too smart for youall and my own self :D

I dont recall seeing that post.... LOL.

So lemme ask you something... can you play Crysis, Bioshock, or UT3 on that system fine?

I am having issues with Cool N Quiet, even using RMclock to bypass it, but those new kinds of games crash to desktop... while older games like Oblivion run fine.

I do not own a copy of bioshock, but I have run the others. I ran the crysis demo, and it would run fine 95% of the time, getting around 35fps on all high. The textures were set to medium. Game size was 1920x1200. Sometimes the game would freeze for about 10 seconds and then come back. This freeze disappeared when I installed the real game when it came out. The cpu usage during the game is like 40-55% cpu power depending on areas. Sometimes it spikes up to like 80% but thats normal.
UT3 I had slipstreamed onto my system cause my friend wanted to see what the game would be like on a laptop which could run it. His toshiba with integrated 6100 graphics could pump at most 8-10fps on even the low settings. WIth all of the setting on high, and the resolution to the 1920x1200, the fps was around 55-65fps all of the time. My quadro has no problems running these games.

Is your 7800GTX not able to run these games?

The cool and quiet is actually strange. When installed, it would cause system instabilities, so I just uninstalled it. I use cpu rightmark to throttle my cpu down to the 5x multi when it doesnt need that much power. I actually read somewhere on amd's site that cool and quiet does not work with opteron processors. It is actually only designed to work with the athlon series.

Exactly... Clevo never intended Opterons to run on this system... thats why CnQ cannot be disabled in the BIOS.

I do not get any instabilities other than the new demanding games (UT3 and Bioshock... all fully updated to newest patches).

My 7800GTX runs them fine, I am actually testing with an old X2 4200+... no issues with those games, while with the Opteron, the games crash to desktop (no BSODs or resets though).

I will switch back to the Opteron to see if I can figure what else I can do with RMclock to remedy the CnQ issue.

Too bad my programming skills sucks, because I would totally make a new BIOS for disabling CnQ... and adding OC option. :)

yeah... its a basic socket 939 CPU. Works fine.

I have used a number of them in it over the years:
    - 3500+
    - X2 3800+
    - X2 4200+
    - Opteron 180
