Can this be done? ive built plenty of desktop computers, but how about switching out the processor on this puppy?

It is upradeable although upgrading the processor would most likely void your warranty. It is cheaper to get the CPU from the manufacturer usually.
It's like upgrading the engine in a car . . . not easy and not something that is wise. -
Yes, it can probably be done, but you just about have to remove everything.
Much more harder than a desktop.

I know this is Toshiba, but it shows your roughly what you got to do to get to the cpu. Just look at a few of them and see. I don't ever want to open up my lappy. -
Brand new computer, Upgrade the CPU? Might I ask what your train of thought on this is? CPU's are not like RAM in notebooks.

I figured... in a year or two any processor the notebook supports will be going towards obsolete anyway....

It's best to just get the fastest you can afford/think you need when you first buy your notebook. By the time you want to upgrade your cpu the high end cpus would still cost enough not to be worth it. Not to mention the platform you're trying to upgrade are out of date at the time.
