Yes, I appreciate that, but I have had a nightmare with WD in the past, not just with their lack of reliability, but also with their apalling customer service. My son has a 500gb Desktop My Book, which has been replaced 4 times and the last time it took them nearly 3 months!!!!

    Thanks anyway.

PC Pro has just done a big test issue on external HDDs, but bizarrly, Seagate only supplied the 320gb version of the Freeagent Go. See here for details of the article:

they are just 3.5 hard drives right? Would it be smarter if i just got a cheap external hard drive and upgrade the hard drive inside myself? Or do people just normally buy enclosures

u can take a 2.5" enclosure and put a 2.5" internal HD in it, provided both the HD and enclosure have same interface,
but i know a friend of mine who did that and used a cheap enclosure, problem was his HD got recognised on some laptops and didnt on others, was very frustrating.

so i would suggest you get an external one from either seagate or WD.
iam using seagate freeagent go 500gb and its amazing so easy to work without any problem and has its own backup software with it.
