I got a WD 640GB for my ultrabay. My Seagate drive is dead silent while the WD has a bit of a whir to it. It's funny it sounds a bit like the wind. It's not terrible or anything, but when I'm in a quiet situation, it's there. If I could get rid of it, that would be great. Is WD making any tools to address this? I know some of the other drive makers do, but I've not followed it too closely. Thanks for any help.

You could try changing the AAM setting, first with HD Tune Pro. Maybe it makes a difference.
Some WD seem to make this noise, some not:

I wonder if WD would exchange it for me? It's a little annoying, but since maybe most don't seem to have it, they might.

Yeah you can always try. Say that the noise bothers you.
