Does anyone know how well this thing performs in comparison to say... a samsung 850 evo?

I recently picked up a used laptop and the first thing I want to do is add a m.2 stick or whatever... as it currently only has a HDD.

The WD is on sale for $100 at a local store... curious how it compares to the $200 evo.

The EVO is not $100 better (for a used notebook...).

What is your intended workflow/workloads for the new/used notebook?

Primarily used for pentesting, getting it cleared to be used as my new workbook.

Basically means multiple VMs open, running various tools.

The Evo is $200, the WD is $100 at my local store. Trying to determine if it would be benficial to pick up the WD for $100.

Is it 2x slower than the Evo? 50% slower?

How big are your VM's? How many do you have and how many do you run consecutively?

The EVO may 'score' 2x faster in certain BM's... but real world? Not worth double unless your workloads are 'paid' work and not just your hobby...
