is this drive any good how does it compare to the Samsung 950
I have a chance to pick up one for 60$ I was going to get the samsung 950 but for the price different I just might get the wd unless it much slower

Is it a 500GB SSD? Thats a great price for $60 lol..
Performance will be less than a 950 pro for sure but for that price, its still a great upgrade..

Here's the spec sheet: https://www.wdc.com/content/dam/wdc/website/downloadable_assets/eng/spec_data_sheet/2879-800079.pdf
Here's the 950 pro spec sheet: http://www.samsung.com/semiconducto...nt/Samsung_SSD_950_PRO_Data_Sheet_Rev_1_2.pdf
Not really in the same ballpark... -
god dam that 950 is fast
so the wd is pretty much comparable to the Samsung 850 -

Your comparing a nvme (950 pro) to a standard SATA drive (wd). The form factor is the same but totally difference architecture.

The difference in performance between the SATA III WD Blue and the Samsung 950 Pro isn't as big as the stats would have you believe. The big dramatic increase in performance is moving off a spinning disk onto a SSD, even a WD Blue. If storage capacity is even any sort of a concern, get the WD. I have a WD Blue 1TB 2.5" drive and a Samsung pm961. In my day to day use, the pm961 is a little faster than the WD, but not earth-shattering.

Depends on the use and what your doing. General daily web surfing-no, game loading-no.. VM's, video editing, large file moving, , database, photo editing and other disk intensive applications-yes. General OS snappiness and overall satisfying feeling it gives you is worth the price of admission.

so if I am doing nothing major I should get the wd I will most likely be playing games web browsing and every once in a great while I will make a Blu-ray movie
will be going in an alienware 17 r4 with 16gb ram gtx1070 4k screen 6820hk cpu it already has the a 120gb ssd with a 1tb hd
it should work? going to replace the 120 with the 500gb wd install windows then install the 120 format it and use it as a junk drive -
However is Intel 600p an option on this Dell thing? The Intel is a NVMe SSD and relatively cheap so you might be able to get it at a similar price for a 500GB one..
