I put a 2 TB western digital Caviar green in a nexstar CX enclosure and connected it to my desktop and laptop with a USB cable. What happens is it detects the drive and says its ready for use but then it doesn't show up in explorer under windows 7.

It shows up as a harddrive in device manager, it says that its a USB device though, but it doesn't show up in windows explorer so I can't access it.

Anyone know of a solution? Thanks.

Right-click 'Computer' and click Manage. From there, go to Disk Management.

If you see the drive there, you should be able to right-click the partition and click 'Change Drive Letter and Paths' and assign a drive letter.

To add to that, make sure that the drive has been initialized and formatted.

Thank you guys! You are both right, it asked to initialize an unknown disc, now I think I should try to create a new simple volume on it from disk management.

Edit: Yes this leads me to formatting options. I'll do a format tomorrow and report back. Thank you!!
