I have a 1 TB external from Western Digital, it is supposed to be compatible with eSATA but my computer doesn't detect it when I try to connect it. Connecting it with USB works fine but I got this drive because I wanted the speed of eSATA. How can I find out what the problem is? I'm thinking of getting a refund or maybe an exchange but I hope it won't get to that.

Wasn't sure if this should have gone in the accessories section or this one so...yeah

I also bought one of these external drives and after I bought a Dynex eSata card from Best Buy and found that computer did not detect the drive, I found an article on Western Digital's site about the issue. Basically it says there are a very limited number of eSATA cards that are supported for use with My Book Home Edition drives (how convenient -.-). In fact, for notebooks there are only two cards that are tested and confirmed to be working with the drives. And of those two cards, I can only use the 34 slot, so that leaves me obligated to buy that one (I'm obviously not going to buy and return 30 eSATA cards to find one that works when I have a sure bet.

Here's the link (sorry for ranting!): Western Digital Knowledge Base Link (The specific article)
