    What are the main differences between the pro, premium and essential lines of Western Digital external hdds?

    Thanks for that link, very helpful. what would you recommend? I'd just be using it as backup and to hold media files.

    You can probably get a 500GB WD Essential (with only USB 2.0) for around $100 USD. I would recommend that :)

    Thats probably what I'll go for :) The main benefit of Firewire vs USB is increased speed with FW right? All the ones I've used so far have been USB so I dont think I'll mind the USB speed. thanks!
