I have a WD Scorpio Blue 1TB 5400RPM and it makes the HDD activity noise (extremely fast clicking) whenever it reads or writes data. However, I keep reading other people saying that this drive doesn't make any noise at all.

If you have this drive, does it make regular HDD activity noises?

I also have a 1tb WD Blue 2.5inch drive within an external bay. It does make a slightly twitchy noise midst the whine of the motor, nothing to be alarmed by I think.

Mechanical noise may or may not be an indication of pending failure - it's not a definitive sign of anything. Some platter drives make noise, some don't (although modern drives are generally suppose to make very little to no noise).

The Blue is an entry level drive, so I can't say it's surprising. Searching around there seem to be several people with qualms on their noise level.
