    Hi all,

I want to upgrade my old HDD Fujitsu 80GB ATA with one of this 3 hdd to 250GB: WD Scorpio Blue or WD Scorpio Black or Seagate Momentus 7200/5400 rpm.
I don't want the HDD to be noisier and hotter then my old one. I read about them on forums but i can't decide what to choose. Some people say that those at 7200 rpm feel vibrations in your notebook and that the Seagate is hotter.

I don't know what to choose. Can someone pls help me to take the right decision.

    Many thanks !

    How old is your drive
Is it the newer type sata, or the older ide or ata type?

If you want the quietest, coolest one get the Scorpio Blue.

If you want the fastest one get the Scorpio Black.

Both drives are SATA and will not work with an ATA interface.

well if u've got a SATA interface , I would recommend u get scorpio Black since it is 7200rpm... also stay away from seagate drivers , especially the momentus ones...they fail a lot... and if ur willing to spend more , why not get Hitachi 7K500 500GB drive... its 7200rpm and fastest mobile drive... also ur SATA 1 interface won't hold it back so might as well get it... if ur lucky , u can find it for as low as $75...

I agree with Phil. Quiet=scorpio blue. Fast=scorpio black. Having said that I will relay my thoughts on my 5400 to 7200rpm upgrade.

I purchased an Inspiron 1440 shortly after xmas and it came with a scorpio blue. The drive was exceptionally quiet and, in my mind, quicker than I was expecting a 5400rpm drive to be. Still, being the enthusiast that I am I always knew I'd replace the blue with the black. I just got around to doing it two weeks ago and I have to tell you the scorpio black isn't much faster than the scorpio blue. Given equal laptops side by side I doubt I'd be able to tell the difference between the two drives. I will say that the scorpio black is noticeably louder than the blue so if that makes a difference to you then stick with the blue.

The bottom line is that if I had to do it all over again I probably wouldn't upgrade the drive. The small speed increase of the black was not worth the 75 bucks I paid for it. The single biggest difference you can make when dealing with a mechanical drive is to wipe the preinstalled OS and crapware and reinstall fresh. I can go from power on to the Windows 7 desktop in 35 seconds and this is a bottom of the barrel Pentium dual core t4300 processor.

Get the Hitachi 7K500 500GB , I have a WD Scorpio black 320 gb 7200 and the hitachi 500 , both are quiet and run cool , at least in my case , battery life has not changed since switching from 5400 drives .
Both great drives , but the extra gb come in handy , and I found one for $79.00 Canadian , can't beat that
