I have a couple of Velociraptors in my desktop and was looking at the box this morning. I realized it looks like a 2.5" SATA hdd thats bolted onto a giant heatsink. If it is, can i in theory take it apart and put it in my notebook?

No you can't. Because its 15mm thick. It needs 12VDC, and mobile motherboards don't have a 12V line (only 5VDC).
And power consumption/dissipation is way too high as compared to a normal mobile drive.

    Erokitsune,
I have tried using a Velociraptor in my D900K, a friends D901C, a friends XPS1730, and none of them can even power up the drive.
Most laptops do not have a 12 volt line as Andy mentioned.
My D900K does have a 12 volt line but it can only source 500mah, which is not enough to even power up the drive.
So just leave the drives in your desktop, cause its not going to work.

You could have saved yourself the trouble and researched it on WD's website:
