    Hi there,

I have a WD7500BPKT 2,5" HDD. It has worked properly together with my SSD. A few days ago when I booted my laptop it was stuck at the windows logo. Tried to recover from the windows DVD. All didn't work, I took out the HDD (which doesnt have the windows on it) and it booted fine. I tried hooking it up to my desktop, when it is connected the windows on there won't boot as well.

Also, I have tried getting to the files using a usb to sata adaptor, it does show up, but it is named: Disk Name USB Device. I can't access it though.

Is there any way I can access my files? Or atleast reformat it so I can use it again?
Or are these signs of a broken HDD?

    Regards,

    TQ

Get the files off of it if you can - then promptly junk it.

Do the platters spin at all when power is applied?

Does the BIOS see the drive directly attached? Can you even get to the BIOS?

How important was that data it holds? If just commercial multi-media files; I would not put too much time in reviving it, myself.

Yes; this is a sign of a dead HDD.

You may want to put it in a plastic/sealable sandwich bag and put it in the freezer for 4-8 hrs and then immediately connect it to a computer to see if you can get your data off - make sure there is no condensation on the drive itself when you do...

If the data is really important; you might need to get it professionally recovered. But note that you will be looking at big $$$ to do so.

    Good luck.

agreed. sounds like some bad secotors have killed the drive.
i had 2 sectors on my WD and it froze like yours at boot up.
after 15 attempts it worked for one log in and then first bit of software i tried to open it just froze.
try a safemode boot with networking as this worked a few times for me as well. tapping F8 on bootup.
at least if that works you could try to retrieve some data but if the data you need has one of the bad sectors it will just freeze up again.

as mentioned getting data retreived professionally can cost hundreds or even thouands depending on size as it will need a clean room to do this in and these cost hundreds for a 1 hour hire.
