    My bad, it's a 5300 AGN.
Reading through the link you supplied, I guess the Virtual WiFi allows to use my notebook as a WLAN access point and share the network connection.
I don't need this functionality, so I can live good without it.
Anyhow, thank you for the link. :)

    benny1234,

    Thanks for your persistence!

I did download the HP drivers and the install actually started (I was very hopeful!) but when all was said and done; the 8.0.0.305 drivers from Feb 9, 2010 were still the ones that were installed.

Still, even though it didn't ask for a reboot, I restarted my system (3 times, to be sure...) and although there is still the same drivers loaded (v8.305) and the network icon still spins for a while - it is almost 3 times faster to 'connect' officially - even though I can access the internet or my outlook email while it is still trying (went from about 1 1/2 minutes to 30 seconds).

Do you have any other suggestions to try? I think though that for the Atheros AR9285 card that I have, I really do have the latest drivers installed.

Thanks for any additional info you can shed on this.

    Hi

What OS are you on? I googled your WIFI Card and there seems to be a lot of people struggling to get the latest drivers. Found this link that may be of interest

Latest Atheros WLAN drivers for Windows 7 and Vista (x86 & x64) - LaptopVideo2Go Forums

A number of the hits suggest driver in the 9.0 versions and above, but I don't know if they will perform better. In my experience upgrading my D260 driver did wonders ...

Is the driver you have installed provided by Asus or is a a windows one? You could try and uninstall it and use the microsoft's.

    Regards

    Hi benny1234,

Win7x64 here with 8GB RAM running on Intel 320 Series 160GB SSD.

The drivers are the official Asus ones from the website for my U30Jc-A1 system - same version apparently as the HP ones you linked previously.

I'll have a chance to try the LaptopVideo2Go ones later - will keep you updated.

I have uninstalled it - but no change even with MS's driver (still think a Windows update is interfering or interacting with something else on my system - like Roxio EMC 2011, for eg.).

Thanks for your continued interest and support!

    Hmm...

You might be onto a loser here see link below regarding your card.

    http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1411744

Plenty of good chat here regarding your card and x64. There is one guy who had luck loading the driver 9.2.0.113 from ATHEROS drivers for Microsoft Windows (Atheros?????). I personally would only download from "official" sites.

Seems that Atheros have been bought by Qualcomm so its unlikely that we'll see any more 'driver releases'.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

PS, how's the Intel 320 holding up. I used a Corsair F60 in my D260. SSD Life reported 20+ year MTTF. But had to put it out when it started barfing after about 6 months. No sooner that I pulled it and retested it in an external enclosure it started working ok. Known problem haha. Replaced it with OCZ 2E. Now I read that 25nm versions are unstable compared to 32nm ones. :((
