    Hi,
As my signature indicates, I'm getting a MSI 1651 laptop. After some long and hard thought, the WSGXA+ screen is starting to get to me because it's matte :p.
However, my eyesight isn't the greatest, and I fear that seeing the text on the WSGXA+ would be difficult. If possible, can someone link me to a picture of a 15.4" lappy (preferably a clear shot of the screen) with a WSGXA+ screen or post one themselves.
    Thanks in advace :)

WSGXA+ have very small text so that means it is not good for you, but if you like the matte you don't have to run the screen at native resolution, I have a 20inch lcd at home (1680x1050 as well) set at 1024x768.

I know this question comes up a lot, so I will try and help.

    1. GET INTO A STORE! Find some normal makes that will have the screen in different resolutions and check it out! For me I knew that CDW sold a lot of thinkpads which cover many different screen sizes and resolutions (and was my preferred choice of computer was researching). For you the old T61, and I assume the new T500 are offered in WSXGA+ among other sizes. Visiting the store is what told me I could live with WSXGA+ and that I couldn't use WUXGA for more than a few minutes. I still struggle with WSXGA+ some time so if don't love it right away, beware!

    2. Since no one ever shares any pictures, here are three I took right now. It’s hard to give you any real idea of what it is like, but I did my best. I can try any additional request tomorrow that you think might help more.
[Sorry for low quality, low resolution. I don't have Photoshop on this computer and imageshack.com is apparently no longer works so I found this one on google...]
[Also, I really don't think the second two give you any sense of scale, oh well.]

    Edit:
On DPI: I would not run an LCD on anything but its native resolution, or half the resolution in each dimension. I tried making a few attempts but they all looked horrible to me and it was not worth it. If you do not like the native resolution looks then find a model where you can buy a low one or a bigger screen. Changing default DPI looks BAD.

Ty very much for the pictures :D . Doesn't seem too. If it turns out too small, I suppose not running @ native wouldn't be the end of the world.

Gas is too expensive (CANADA -_-), and running to the store isn't completely worth it :p

In addition, the local best buy seriously lacks computers, and I dunno if I can find a WSGXA+ 15.4"

My previous laptop was WSXGA+ on 15.4" display and it was causing tears after 2-3 hours of continuous usage... (Although I do not have any vision problem...)

You may not understand if it is suitable for you by using it for a short duration... If you have the option, borrow your friend's laptop and use it for a day long... I wish the stores had this option... :sigh:

How far are you from the store? The computer you listed starts at over $1,100 for the lowest level configuration (before an OS). Are you really going to spend enough in that case to purchase without having seen a screen in real life? (What is it, 30 miles -> $7?)

I have no vision problems for anything within about 4 feet, and then I have extremely minor issues with text and details after that. I couldn't handle any more pixels and there are many times when I have to read things all day long and I wish I had less of them. Figure out some way to look at them since the laptop can be purchased in a lower resolution. My roommate has a 22" screen with the same resolution (its a desktop). Long term use and text is a lot easier on the eyes.

setting an LCD to anything BUT its native resolution is far from ideal.

if you use Firefox or IE, the "font" settings are excellent in the current versions.

for example, in Firefox 3, each tab and each site's font sizes are remembered! so if you choose for this site a certain font size and for another site a different font size, firefox 3 will remember them and when you revisit the site another day, it will open the site up appropriately.

font size adjustment is firefox 3 is: control plus or control minus.

    hope this helps.

Used matte screens all my life, don't think I'll get a glossy one any time soon.
