I was customizing a ThinkPad SL and they had the option of a WXGA screen or a WXGA LED for the same price. What's the difference and why would they be the same price?

Different back light technology. One is lit by CCFL light the other by LED. The LED one is brighter (no necessarily a need), and also consumes less power.
-
I'd even pay more for an LED.

If they are the same price, I would choose LED since LED is typically better CCFL.

Yep, LED will get you slightly better battery life, quite a bit more brightness, and will power on ("warm up") much quicker than the standard CCFL. They also happen to be thinner (although not all LED screen laptops will have a thin screen, sometimes manufacturer like to have thick screen casing to enhance durability). LED is quickly replacing CCFL, so you'll also have a better resale value. I would go for the upgrade if the cost is nominal ($100 or less).

They cost exactly the same. There's a $0 next to it.

I'd hit up the LED if I were you. Better investment for sure.

you could go for the CCFL to make a statement and impress glinda

She likes her diodes.

The LED is better in my opinion, there is a big difference with the lighting benefits..
