I'm looking into buying either the Asus G1 or G2 very soon.

Although, the reason I'm still deliberating, is because I read up on the Intel Mobile Extreme processors, and the 8800 series mobile Nvidia cards.

I guess what I'm asking is: Is it worth the wait for Asus to implement these hardware upgrades into their notebook, or does the price difference out-margin that of the upgrade? (Looking to keep it around two grand.)

I also heard that when the Extreme chips will be implemented, that they ARE indeed supposed to go into Asus and Dell notebooks first.

Simply...Get the G1/G2 now? Or wait, so I couldn't possibly be disappointed?

Honestly, I can't see a notebook with the Extreme going for less than $2500-$3000. And...the 8800 is going a be a while, at least a few months before it gets released.

Yeah, exactly what I was thinking...

    Now it's down to G1 at 1599.99 or G2 at 1999.99

$400 difference, 15.4 inch to 17.0, still kind of a toss up, but leaning toward the G1...

absolutly do not wait for the extremes, complete waste of money if you ask me, as long as the processor is atleast 2gig and is a core 2 then youre set.

Hmmm. I've never heard of the G1S going for $1600...and the G2S is still at $2000. Just a curious observation. ;) But, seriously, the G1 is an absolutely excellent notebook; you won't regret it. I myself have a G2S and it's fantastic, but of course, I bought it when the price different was like $50 or something. xD

Yeah, Extreme series processors pretty much give a really small performance increase for the money you put into them. I'd second not waiting for 'em.

Yeah, on Bustbuy.com, the Asus G1S is only $1599.99, and was $1749.99 only 2-3 days ago as I recall. Also, with the new 1 year free accidental from Asus if you purchase a laptop after September 10th, which, it is... :p...It really seems like the ~perfect~ time to buy it.

And no. Before you ask, I'm not buying a best buy plan, I don't trust a single worker over there, and even the Geek Squad doesn't know what they're talking about...most of 'em anyway.

And yes, the G2S is still priced at $1999.99.
