Hi Every one, i have acer notebook travelmate 4024wlmi, it has the following configuration:

-Intel pentium M Processor 760 (Centrino 2.0 GHz, 533 MHz FSB, 2 MB L2 cache)
    -15.4 WXGA wide TFT LCD
    -HD Toshiba 80 GB
    -Vga 128 Intel 915 GM/GSM
    -DVD-RW Dual QSI 8X
    -512 MB DDR2
    -802.11b/g wirless LAN
    -Bluetooth

Well after use 6 monthes i didn,t like Acer mark, wanted to change my notebook, i wanted to move to DELL after checking many notebooks in Computer Market, now think that DELL notebook will be suitable for me and it has the following configuration and dont remember its model:

-Intel Centrino DUO (1.66 dual core, 667 MHz FSB, 2 MB L2 cache)
-15.4 WXGA wide TFT LCD Crystal
    -HD 60 GB
    -DVD-RW Dual 8X
    -512 MB DDR2
    -802.11b/g wirless LAN
    -Bluetooth

since its price is suitable for me, i ,m so confused cause of centrino duo technology, my question is it better to use one core processor centrino 2.0 or 1.66 dual core in worst and best case ? which is better ? i,m realy confused regards of that is ACER :( and that is DELL ;)

Please i need help to decide.

    Best Regards,

    Mgs4solidsnake

It's not that a core duo is way faster...it's just that it is basically two CPU cores handling data versus one. If you're going to be doing a lot of multitasking, having several windows open at once, and thinking of switching to the newest software that comes out...you'll probably want to switch. You'll see a noticeable improvement in all of those cases.

I usually Visual Studio.Net 2005 enviroment to build web application, this is my normal use, also if i run one application as this one does it will run in 1.66 GHz or it the work will be divided between two processors will working in one application, i mean does the performance will boost if i used one application like this ?

performance boast no matter what... see the super pi results. those only utlize 1 core on a core duo and even the 1.66 core duo is at least 10 sec faster than the fastest pen-m

so yes, you want a core duo...

Super pi is a program that calculates pi to a certain number of decimal points. The faster your compuer can do the calcualtion for a given number of decimal points the faster it is. It can be found here.

The Core duo has a faster FSB then the PM thats why it is sometimes faster at single threaded apps. Remember that you will have background tasks/services like antivirus/firewall/antispyware so with a core duo, you *will* use both cores and notice a speed difference.

You mean the Core Duo. There is the Core Duo and the recently released Core 2 Duo. Both are part of the Centrino Duo platform.

The Core 2 Duo will be better than the Core Duo obviously since it has some architectural improvements over the Core Duo which is just the first generation of the Core series. The Core 2 Duo is not available yet but should be more available in systems by the end/middle of August. If you need more detailed information about the architectural differences between the 2 processors, search the web there are many many articles with in depth reviews on the basic architecture of the 2 processors. These days it is not one thing which determines the performance of the processor. The GHz myth is the past and knowing the basic architectural differences between 2 processor is probably the only true way to find out the differences or you can look at benchmarks and see the areas where the C2D improves over the CD...

EDIT: The Core 2 DUo is capable of 64bit processing along with 32bit. The Core Duo is only a 32bit processor.
