I am looking to upgrade my Toshiba X305-706 processor.
I am looking at the Intel Core Extreme chips. I have about 500 to blow,
So please let me know what you guys think. I know there are power consuptoin issues, chipset issues, and other things. Please let me know what the best upgrade would be for my current processor which is a P8400 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. Whats the best bang for my buck?

Lets hear it guys, tell me what you think!

Oh and I know that the 500 wont get much, but there are a few chips on ebay in that range. Even if its not an extreme the faster processor and whatnot is what i am looking into. so please advise in the direction.
Basically best upgrade chip for the money!

It will noticeably lower your battery life, but cooling shouldn't won't be a problem.

Thanks guys, so the toss up is the X9100 or the X9300. Let me look at the specs, and lets see what goes down. I think it will be a good play to see what goes from here. Thanks for the input. will update later today when i finish the research.

Just a FYI, buying an extreme chip doesnt mean you get an EXTREME chip. Its just a higher clocked mobile chip. The unlocked multi doesnt help in 99% of the cases because laptop bios's do not allow overclocking.
A better idea is to put the $500 in the bank and save for the next laptop.
To be honest teh small performance gain from the faster cpu is definitely not worth $450 -500.

What about the T9800? I hear its a really good chip, and its very very close to the X9100. What are you guys views on the T9800 vs. the X9100.

Also looking at the X9300 which is actually the QX9300...the price diff is about 400 more dollars.

The X9100 looks pretty nice, but what will be the diff between the T9800 and the X9100?

If you know please let me know!

    Thanks guys

Your existing CPU is plenty for gaming based on the GPU it's matched up with. Unless you plan on heavy media encoding, keep what you have, or build a desktop.
