I want to know if there is any really good sound upgrades for my current Laptop(Asus G72GX).

Or is it all in the headset I wear?

For the most part, it is the headset that you wear. There is no need to buy a dedicated DAC for gaming, most laptop DACs are going to do a decent job.

Start by buying a good pair of headphones and work your way up from there.

    I don't follow headsets. I'm a headphone guy.
