Hi guys, first post - this site is great...

So, first question, I bought an M50SV, and absolutely love it except for one thing - the keyboard (more accurately, it's insensitivity) is... annoying, to say the least.

When i'm typing fast, up to 20% of the keystrokes are missed, and it's driving me insane.

I've heard of other reports of this, and would like to know if I can replace the stock keyboard with a more sensitive one, and if so what models are available?

I *love* the layout (especially the full size numpad), but ****... you can't skim your fingers across the keys at all, each touch has to be considered and deliberate, and even then it misses keystrokes sometimes.

    Thanks in advance, guys.

*EDIT* The problem has been fixed, it's not the actual keyboard, but a driver issue. If anyone else has this problem, then downloading KB_FILTER_VT from the ASUS downloads section of their site (search for KB) and running the exe will fix the driver.

Most likely you cannot change the keyboard. The keyboard for almost every system has different dimensions, and a different pinout.

This is the keyboard used on your M50:

Unfortunately ASUS only manufactures one keyboard with a num pad, and that is the one you already have.
It looks like you are out of luck with swapping your keyboard (unless out of some oddity that another laptop keyboard with a numpad has the same dimensions and the same interface connector)

Check e-bay--they might have the keyboard you need.

Thanks guys, I guess I'm stuck with this one :'(

I've heard similar problems from other users, so I imagine just replacing the keyboard wouldn't do me any favours...

Guess I'll be getting a USB Keyboard for typing.

UPDATE: It's not the keyboard. Was reading through the forum a little more, and it's a driver issue, I'll link to the thread.

You need to download KB_FILTER_VT from the ASUS site, it installs a new driver, and so far everything is going perfectly.

Wow thats odd, your keyboard needs a driver to work?
I guess it has some crazy function hotkeys, becuase most keyboards do not need any special drivers to work. They just use the standard human interface driver windows has.

I am glad that the fix was software related.

The hotkeys do need a driver, and I think it's the same driver in question, but there are three proposed solutions to this problem:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=252283

I like the KB_FILTER driver one because it doesn't require diabling anything or fiddling with the registry, and it's worked 100% fr me...
