I have the HP ze4910us laptop, and I want to replace the 1.4ghz Celeron with a newer processor. The motherboard is a socket 478, and I have found some processors that could work. My question is would any processor with a 478 socket work or do they make special ones just for laptops. I ask this because I found some P4 processors in that same socket that would be much better than the Celeron.

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Ok, no. You have socket 479 (which has 478 pins) and a Celeron M 330. You can upgrade to any Pentium M with a 400MHz FSB as long as your BIOS supports it. You cannot upgrade to a P4 but the Pentium M is a superior chip.

Thanks a lot, is there any way I can find a list of what processors my bios supports?

Honestly, when all is said and done, don't some of these upgrades not make economical sense? I mean for $500 you can get a better CPU, FSB, HDD, RAM in a new notebook? Or am I missing something? Oh and a one year warranty for free. What am I missing?

Well I could upgrade the the ram to 1gb from 512 for $60, and a 4200rpm hdd to an 80gb 7200 rpm hdd for $80, and if I can find a processor that I can find for around $100 that is around $250 for a laptop that is much better than it is now. To be honest I can't really spend $500 all at once, but spending around $100 every few weeks is much easier for me. I also really like this one because of its durability. It has endured many falls onto carpet and linoleum from above 4ft and nothing has been broken or damaged and it didn't even lock up. I picked it back up and everything was running fine.

Well, seeing as this won't be as easy as I had hoped, you guys got any links to good overclocking artices for this processor?

I see your point but you might consider the RAM and HDD upgrade as those should help and see if you can tuff it out. If you can in the end you will jump much farther ahead of the curve. Also possible those upgrades could transfer to your new notebook. Just thoughts. The CPU on a newer notebook will blow away what you can get for what you now have.

I use RmClock. Don't know much about Intel.

Intel processors cannot be OCed like that.

Thanks for all the help you guys, one last thing. Do you think this processor would be compatible with my laptop?

I'm not sure if over $100 is worth it for 300mhz but just curious. -

There's no reason it shouldn't work, but it probably won't provide too much of a speed boost.
Want to upgrade my processor, help?
