In a Lenovo Thinkpad X61 with Windows XP Pro. I don't have huge storage requirements, just room for the OS plus some important apps. Not sure how much space XP Pro requires. 1-2 gb? I am guessing I can get by with a 16GB SSD.

So, where do I buy one and will it work in my TP? I know I need 2.5" SATA interface. Is there another special requirement?

No special requirements. Just make sure the form factor is correct and the interface is correct. And yes, be careful, performance does indeed vary between different brands of SSD.

Ebay has some awesome deals. Search for SSD or MTRON. I want one of these so bad I can taste it. Dave

If you want a fast part now, buy 64 gig Samsung from dell here: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...9&sku=341-5582

If you want a screaming fast part, including fast writes, then buy mtron or memoright from dvnation.com or ebay. 64 gig coming soon hopefully prices will drop on the 32s then.

You need to be careful and contact Lenovo first and foremost. Its not too long ago that a Sony lover learned the hardway that a mtron would not work in his system because of something to do with AHCI. The problem could not be fixed.

The SSDs will easily swap with any hard drive for the most part and there is no special software required. I typically swap out 3 or 4 different SSDs a week to test and play around.

As for pricing, Im hoping to have reasonable pricing posted in my article which should be next week sometime with respect to Memoright and Mtron. I believe, if you contact them directly, you may be able to get a 32Gb Mtron Mobi for $700. Another reader emailed me today stating he was successful at this.
