It turns out Seagate 7200.3 is the fastest hard drive in PC Mark XP. Now let's compare the Vantage scores in Vista.
I've got a couple of results for Hitachi 7K320 and WD3200BEKT but none for Seagate 7200.3. The Hitachi got 19 mb/sec Vista startup speed, the WD got 16 mb/sec.

Only PC Mark Vantage Professional gives the results in details, which is a bit expensive and can either be purchased for $500, or otherwise.......
-
OK. Well the basic edition does give one result. Han told me his Seagate scored 4120 total in the HD test.
-
I will be able to run some tests, when I get my seagate, but it will take some more time (at least 14 days :s:s)
And it will be only in xp I'm afraid...
But I wanna thank you guys already for the help with all HDD's, youre wonderful -

Very interesting phoenixx.
When did you get your drive and what revision is it?
Did you disable many background processes?
Based on these results it looks like:
1 Hitachi 7K320
2 WD3200BEKT
3 Seagate 7200.3
But I remember Andy using some performance settings in Vista to boost results.
I wonder if the controller is important too. Maybe we should start taking controllers into account. -
for unbiased comparison, someone needs to test each of them on the same laptop...
-
The different southbridge controllers provide similar performance. So, results won't differ much from one notebook to another.
I didn't really use any performance enhancers, and I doubt enabling those small tweaks in Vista even affects performance in anyway. (I had the pagefile disabled)
One just needs to keep the CPU, RAM idle....as they won't affect the performance of the HDD, but if they are stressed due to background applications, the benchmarking software (i.e. PCMark05/Vantage) will be affected and may give slightly incorrect results.... -
Yeah PCMark/Vantage results are usually pretty comparable between systems in my opinion.
-
Its only a week old. Said SD13.
I did disable a few processes, like Virus scanner and some wifi stuff. Was run with 45 processes running or so. In normal 'high performance' mode plugged in.
HD Tune wise it looks pretty much the same as from other ppl, posted that here
I never ran Vantage for my old 7200.2, but the upgrade is clearly noticeable. As i only wanted more HDD space in the first place, i m quite happy with its performance. -
Yeah the performance is similar to WD3200BEKT and looks ok.
It's just that Han has posted some PCMark benches that were quite a bit faster than the Hitachi 7K320. -
I'm trying my best to get the Pcmark Vantage result. The score was much better than what posted when I tested.
-
I have my 7k320's in raid 0 and they are substantially faster than Han's pcmark score. I will have to install my proper drivers first before posting any benchies. All I know is that I can see a pretty good performance jump from my 7k200's. I will have to do testing on single drives too, I just need to find the time to do it all
K-TRON -
RAID is of course faster, stop cheating buddy
-
I wil install my 7200.3 320 GB tonight, and maybe run a bench, if I got time...
Wanted: Seagate 7200.3 owners who can run PC Mark Vantage
