Well, if the Asus update comes at the same time as Montevina release, the expected date is July 14th right now.

soft launch is july, hard launch in august... you should probably order now since it takes time to build and ship it too, plus you need time to check the laptop before you leave.

What is this supposed to be launching, a casino? I haven't heard of soft launches and hard launches since the last time I watched Ocean's Thirteen.

But seriously, what's the difference? Is it just announced in July and retail availability in August or what?

    http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-a-soft-launch.htm

A soft launch is a type of release for hardware, software, and websites where the product is released incrementally with little fanfare, initially to a limited audience. Many companies like to use a soft launch to test the viability of a product. A soft launch is also useful because it allows companies to fine tune a product before making a big marketing push. Soft launches are especially common with websites, to which new features can easily be introduced.

ie. you, the consumer probably won't be able to even order the new Montevina until the hard launch; however, you can expect reviewers to test them and some educational instituations who get them first.

Im not sure how it works but i dont think i have to reorder. I think they are giving me the same configuration i had tried to buy, just with the montevina upgrade. I heard August 5th will be the date and i leave for college on Aug 15th, so that doesnt give me much time does it?

email xoticpc and ask them to give you an estimated date of delivery since you are on a tight time budget.

The Intel NDA will expire July 15th at 11pm PST. That is when all resellers/notebook manufacturers will be able to officially take orders of montevina based laptops. Odds are the first shipped laptops will come through end of July/early August.
