I'm confused about all the different types of signals out there: ASTC, NTSC, QAM etc2. All I need is a USB NOTEBOOK tuner that I can connect my DirectTV receiver to be able to watch directtv on my computer.
    Will this be enough?

Or do I have to wait for the new PCTV HD Ultimate USB stic?

I do not know much about tuner cards, but I assume it would work, you just plug the outputs from the receiver into the input on the card (make sure they match up before you buy, whether its composite video or s-video or whatever). What will not work it plugging the rg6 cable that comes directly from the dish into your notebook.

What I would recommend is a slingbox. The video quality is excellent (if your internet is fast enough) and it works anywhere, whether you are home or anywhere else with an internet connection. I currently have a slingbox hooked up to a directv receiver and it works great.

Thanks for the slingbox suggestion but it really isn't an option to me right now. I'm still confused what kinds of tuners are compatible with with the direct tv feed.

Satellite is DVB-S. You can also use a video capture card with your existing receiver.
