    Hi guys,

I purchased a brand new WD Scorpio 80GB SATA hard drive for my Toshiba laptop because the Hitachi was dying.

I've just finished installing XP and all my software yesterday and now i hear a strange noise.

In idle mode, from 8 to 8 seconds, I hear a noise that's similar to a 'digital camera lid closing'. This noise stops after ~ 30 seconds and it's NOT one of those clicking or grass hopper noises.

Anyway, there's another 'cliiiiing' noise once it goes to idle.

Here are a few more details:

    - the flashing led corresponding to HDD activity doesn't flash when the sounds occur
    - during a test with HD Tach the sounds did NOT occur.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks ! :)

Did you run HD Tune? Strange noises from a hard drive usually aren't good. I would suggest making sure you have a good backup might be a good idea.

Hi, I just ran HD Tune (just heard of it from you) and everything seems to be fine.

The noise doesn't occur when doing normal stuff (disc read/write, sequential read, etc) but it does when going into idle.
